Borobudur Temple One of the Wonders of the World. The origin of the temple can be traced back to as far as 8th century. It is a great Buddhist monument (the biggest Buddhist shrine in the World) and stands high on top of a hill. The basic structure is huge and consists of ten terraces each smaller than the one bellow it, rising to the Great Stupa (stone bell) with a Buddha statue inside it, on the top standing about forty meters above the ground. The walls on the lower six square levels are intricately sculptured, telling the story of the life of Buddha, extending over the length of six kilometers, it is the most complete ensemble of Buddhist relief in the world. |
Prambanan Temple This magnificent Shivaite temple derives it name from the village where it is located. Locally known as the Loro Jonggrang Temple, or the Temple of the "Slender Virgin", it is the biggest and most beautiful Hindu temple in Indonesia. Seventeen kilometers east of Yogyakarta, it is believed to have been built by King Balitung Maha Sambu in the middle of the ninth century. Its parapets are adorned with a bas-reliefs depicting the famous Ramayana story. The first open-air theater on the southern side of the temple was built in 1960 and the new theater on the western side of the temple in 1988. During full moon evenings in the month from May to October, the Ramayana ballet is performed right here. The temple complex of Prambanan lies among green fields and villages. It has eight shrines, of which the three main ones are dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. The main temple of Shiva rises to a height of 130 feet and houses the magnificent statue of Shiva's consort, Durga. |

Kasongan Southwest of Yogyakarta lies the village of Kasongan, known for its artistic pottery and earthenware.
Kota Gede Kota Gede, which is often called Sargede is located about five kilometers southeast of Jogjakarta, Kotagede is a neat little town, which was once the seat of the mighty Mataram Empire. Since the 1930s, Kotagede has become famous for being the center of the Jogja silverwork industry. There are a number of workshops where visitors are welcome to watch silver being transformed into beautiful works of art known as "Jogya Silver". Kotagede is easily reached by "andong", the four-wheeled horse-drawn cart, by taxi, bus, or car. |
Kaliurang This resort is located on the slopes of Mt. Merapi, 24 km north of Jogjakarta and surrounded by an enchanting countryside. Kaliurang lies at the foot of Plawangan hill on the southern slope of mount Merapi, some 28 km, north of Jogjakarta. This is a refreshing holiday resort for those seeking refuge and tranquility amidst the lush green tropical splendor. Parang Tritis One of attractive beaches near Jogjakarta is Parangtritis. Located about 27 km from Jogjakarta. Parangtritis is an enchanting sloping beach combined with rocky hills, dunes, and a white sandy beach. Besides being famous as a recreational spot. Parangtritis is also a sacred place. Many people come to the beach to do meditation. Up to now, this area is remaining functioning as the place to perform the traditional ceremony called Labuhan. Solo or Surakarta Different with the position held by the Karaton Yogyakarta, Karaton Surakarta and Pura Mangkunegaran now positioned themselves as a place to develop and preserve Javanese culture. Pasar Klewer Pasar Klewer in Solo is the busiest textile market in Java, a great place to buy not only the less expensive “stamped” (batik cap) cloths, but also some of the best hand-drawn batik tulis on the island. There are plenty of tailors in the market who can make shirts and skirts in a day. Also not to be missed while visiting Solo is the flea Market at Pasar Triwindu, where everything and anything is for sale to those willing to have a bit of fun bargaining. |
Imogiri Royal Cemetery: This is a Cemetery complex wherein lies the graves of the Sultans and other members of the royal families. It is the location of the famous ‘steps to the clouds’. Tourists are welcome, but as it is a Cemetery it is not really promoted as a Tourist Attraction.
Ngasem Bird Market: If you are a Bird lover then Ngasem Market is for you. The market has been in operation since 1809 and is the place to find any type of bird…at a price!
Best sellers are Turtle Doves, Owls, Eagles, Bulbuls, Orioles, Starlings and Mina Birds, Parakeet and small local birds.
You will also see Snakes, from water Snake, to Cobra, to Python and Iguana and Turtles too.
Bromo National Park: This is a volcanic landscape. The natural beauty of the place accounts for its immense popularity. Tourists climb Bromo for the amazing sunrise, we plan a Hash run there!!
